What are savings goals?

Savings Goals in Money Tank let you set a target amount you want to save, link it to a specific bank account, and track your progress automatically. Whether you’re building an emergency fund, planning a holiday, or saving for something special, Savings Goals help you stay organised and motivated.

How to create a savings goal

  1. Go to Money Tank.

  2. In the My Goals widget, select the + button to open the Add Goal popup.

  3. From the goal type selector at the top, choose Savings.

  4. Enter a Goal Name.

  5. Select the bank account you want the goal linked to.

    • We automatically prefill your starting balance using the current balance of that account.

  6. Enter your target savings amount.

  7. Choose your target end date.

  8. (Optional) Turn on “Display in calendar” switch if you want your scheduled contributions to appear in your Calendar.

  9. Select your payment schedule (weekly, fortnightly, monthly).

    • We’ll calculate how much you need to contribute each period to reach your goal on time.

    • Or, you can override the payment amount and we’ll recalculate the end date for you.

  10. Upload a picture for your goal (optional — you can add or change this later).

  11. Add any notes you want to keep with the goal, then select Save.

Once your goal is created, select View Goals from the widget anytime to monitor your progress or make updates.

FAQs

Q: Why can I only have one Savings Goal per bank account?

A: Each Savings Goal uses your current bank balance as the starting value.
Because a goal can be closed, completed, or cancelled early, we can’t accurately calculate the opening balance for a second goal on the same account until the first one is fully resolved.

This ensures your progress tracking remains accurate and your savings projections stay reliable.
