Deleting a property is a permanent action, so it’s important to make sure everything has been cleared out first. Follow the steps below to safely remove a property from your dashboard.
Before You Start
You can only delete a property if:
There is at least one other property on your dashboard
The property has no data attached (transactions, depreciation, or tax entries)
You are the original owner of the property (co-owners cannot delete it)
Step 1: Remove All Data from the Property
A property must be completely empty before it can be deleted.
Check and remove:
Allocated transactions (from bank feeds or manual entries)
Income and expense entries
Depreciation claims (Plant & Equipment or Capital Works)
Any other tax-related adjustments or records
Tip: If you’re unsure whether anything is still linked, go through the property’s transactions and reports to confirm everything has been cleared.
Step 2: Make the Property Inactive
Once all data has been removed, you’ll need to deactivate the property:
Go to My Account
Find your Property Tank subscription
Click the down arrow to expand the section
Turn off the toggle for the property you want to remove
This will move the property into an inactive state so it can be deleted.
Step 3: Delete the Property
Now you’re ready to delete it:
Go back to Property Tank
Use the Filter option to show Inactive Properties
Locate the property you want to delete
Click Delete
Troubleshooting
If you see an error when trying to delete the property, it usually means something is still attached.
Double-check for:
Remaining transactions (including hidden or allocated ones)
Depreciation schedules or entries
Any income or expense records
Once everything is removed, you should be able to delete the property successfully.
Important Notes
Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone
You must have at least one other property on your dashboard to delete one
Only the original owner can delete a property
Co-owners can view and manage data, but cannot delete the property
Final Tip
If you’re cleaning up duplicates, double-check which property has the correct data before deleting anything. Once deleted, it can’t be recovered.
FAQs
Q: I accidentally duplicated a property, what do I do?
A: If you’ve accidentally created duplicate properties, you can remove them by following the same process used to delete any property. The key requirement is that the property must have no data attached before it can be deleted.
