How to manage multiple TaxTank accounts and subscriptions

Learn how to set up a Family Advisor account to manage multiple subscriptions for your family group.

Updated over a week ago

In TaxTank, each person needs their own subscription to manage their personal income, expenses, and investments based on their individual ownership and claim percentages. But if you’re the one keeping everything up to date for the family, switching between logins can be a pain.

Good news: you can manage all your family’s TaxTank accounts from one place by setting up a Family Advisor Account. Here’s how:

Step 1 – Create a Family Advisor Account

  1. Go to the Register page.

  2. Select "Family Advisor" as your account type.

  3. Enter a Group Name (e.g. "Smith Family") and fill out the registration form.

  4. Check your inbox and verify your email.

  5. Log in to your new Family Advisor Account.

Step 2 – Invite yourself and family members as clients

  1. Once logged in, go to the "Clients" tab.

  2. Click "Add Clients".

  3. Enter the names and email addresses of each individual TaxTank account you want to manage.

💡 Need to set up multiple accounts using the same email?
Use a small email trick: just add “+1” to your existing email. For example: mike@taxtank.com.aumike+1@taxtank.com.au.

Step 3 – Accept the invitations in each account

  1. Log out of your Family Advisor Account.

  2. Log in to each individual TaxTank account.

  3. Go to the "Users" tab and click on "Advisors".

  4. Accept the pending invitation.

Step 4 – Start Managing Everything in One Place

Once you’ve accepted the invites in each account:

  1. Log back into your Family Advisor Account.

  2. Use the dropdown in your dashboard to switch between clients.

  3. You're now ready to manage everything from one login.

That’s it! No more logging in and out across accounts. You can keep track of everyone’s tax and finances from one dashboard.

FAQs

Here are some common questions about Family Advisor Accounts and how they work with individual subscriptions.

Q. Do I still need an individual account if I have a Family Advisor Account?
A. Yes. Each person, including you, still needs their own individual TaxTank account and subscription. The Family Advisor Account simply allows you to manage them all from one login.

Q. I created a Family Advisor Account but actually need an individual account. Can I switch it over?
A. No. Family Advisor Accounts and individual accounts are separate. If you need an individual account, you’ll need to register a new one.

Q. Can multiple people use the same email address to set up TaxTank accounts?
A. Not directly, but you can use the “+” email trick. For example: mikegmail.com can also be mike+2@gmail.com or mike+3@gmail.com and so on. All emails will go to the same inbox.

Q. Do family members need their own subscriptions?
A. Yes. Each person’s income, expenses, and investments are unique to them, so every individual requires their own subscription.

Q. Can I invite family members who already have a TaxTank account?
A. Yes. Just add them as clients under your Family Advisor Account. They’ll get an invitation in their account, which they need to accept before you can manage it.

Q. Can I manage more than one family group?
A. Yes. You can create separate Family Advisor Accounts if you need to manage more than one family group (e.g. Smith Family, Jones Family).

Q. What happens if someone cancels their subscription?
A. If an individual cancels, their data is no longer active in TaxTank, and you won’t be able to manage that account through your Family Advisor dashboard.
