If you own unlisted assets of any kind, for example private company shares, bonds, vintage cars, race horses or anything in between, they can be added to your portfolio in Holdings Tank as an 'Other' asset.
Head to the Trades tab and select the 'Buy' button to open the pop-up, choose the asset type 'Other' from the top menu, and then choose how you own the asset. By default we will select 'Held in my name' which means you own the asset in your name, however select 'Held in other' for any assets bought in a trust, company or SMSF. These trades will be excluded from your Tax Summary.
The processes is very much the same as adding shares and cryptocurrencies with just one extra step, creating your own Ticker.
Creating a Ticker
Before you can select a Ticker from the dropdown menu you need to create one (if you haven't already of course). To do this select the blue '+Add Asset' button above the ticker field to open a popup and complete the fields;
Name - Enter a unique Ticker name to identify the asset, for example 'CBA Bond' or 'Yacht'. There are no rules to the name, just something short that makes sense to you.
Category - Select one of the following categories from the dropdown:
Collectibles - By ATO definition includes artwork (paintings & sculptures), jewellery, antiques, artefacts, coins, medallions or bank notes.
Unlisted stock - Investments in a private or unlisted company
Unlisted unit - Investments in a private or unlisted unit trust
Other - Any else not listed above
Current price/unit - Enter the current market value which can be updated at any time.
% Dividend - If your asset has a fixed rate you can add it here, otherwise leave it empty.
Description (optional) - Here you can add a longer name or more details if you choose, for example for the CBA Bond my description could be '15-year bond with a non-call period of 10 years'.
Once you've created your Ticker select the 'Save' button.
โ
From here its again the same as adding a listed share or crypto.
Select the ticker you just added from the dropdown. Then enter the BUY price in Australian dollars (AUD), the number of units bought and still held, any fees (also in AUD) and the date you bought them. Unlike shares and crypto you have the option to enter you ownership % as it may not be 100%. Then attach any statement or document for safe keeping, select the 'Buy' button, and wallah you're done!
I made a mistake, how do I edit?
if you make a mistake you can edit any of the information quickly and easily. Just scroll or search to find the ticker you need to fix, from the right hand side select the 3 dots, and then select 'Edit' which will open the popup.
Make any changes you need to make to any of the fields in the pop-up, or attach a new document, and then select the 'Save' button.
