What to do when a Ticker doesn’t match when importing in Holdings tank

Learn how to fix unmatched tickers in TaxTank’s Holdings Tank when bulk importing using CSV.

Updated over a week ago

When you import trades using a CSV into TaxTank, we try to match every security code (ticker) against our master list so your Capital Gains Tax (CGT) and current balances stay spot‑on. If we can’t recognise a ticker, we’ll:

  • Import everything else so your portfolio balances remain as complete as possible.

  • Flag the unmatched code in an in‑app notification so you know exactly which ticker needs attention.

Below is what you should do next.

1. Check if the company has been delisted

If the company has been delisted or removed from the exchange, it won’t be available to add.

You can ignore the alert in this case as there’s nothing else you need to do.

2. Double check you still hold shares

If your position has been closed (i.e., you’ve sold all your shares), that might be why it’s not matching.

Again, no action needed if the holding is no longer active.

However, if you need to calculate CGT for a previous financial year, you can manually add the asset as a custom ticker to ensure your records are complete.

3. Check the Ticker hasn't changed

If the company is still trading:

  • Look up the current ticker symbol (including the exchange prefix if needed, e.g., ASX:ABC).

  • Update your CSV with the correct code.

  • Re-upload the updated CSV or manually edit the trade in TaxTank.

Once the ticker is corrected, the alert should disappear.

4. Still unmatched? Send us a chat message

If the ticker is valid and you still hold the shares but it’s still not matching:

  • Send us a message via our in-app chat.

  • Include the exact ticker and exchange (e.g., ASX:XYZ).

We’ll double-check it for you and, if needed, add it to our supported list so it works smoothly next time.
