How to reconnect or reauthorise an expired bank connection

Learn how to reconnect or reauthorise your bank in TaxTank with simple steps that help you fix disconnected or expired connections, restore feeds, and keep your data up to date.

Updated today

If your bank feed has stopped updating, the steps will depend on whether the bank tile is showing as Disconnected, Expired, or has disappeared completely.

This guide will walk you through each option.

Reconnecting a disconnected bank

If your bank tile is showing as Disconnected:

  1. Find the bank tile for your account on the dashboard.

  2. Click the three dots (...) in the top corner of the tile.

  3. Select Reconnect from the dropdown menu.

  4. Follow the prompts to restore the connection.

  5. Make sure to select all bank accounts you want live in TaxTank.

Once complete, your bank feed should begin updating again.

Reauthorising an expired bank connection

If your bank tile is showing as Expired, but the tile is still visible:

  1. Click the three dots (...) on the bank tile.

  2. Select Disconnect.

  3. Once disconnected, click the three dots again.

  4. Select Reconnect.

  5. Follow the prompts to reactivate the feed.

  6. Make sure to select all relevant bank accounts.

Bank tile missing after expired consent

If your bank tile has disappeared completely, you’ll need to reconnect the bank using Add Bank.

This usually only happens when consent has completely expired.

To reconnect:

  1. Click Add Bank

  2. Select your bank

  3. Follow the prompts to reconnect all relevant accounts

  4. Update the Import Transactions From date to the date of your last live transaction to help prevent duplicates (this only applies if your bank tile completely dissapeared)

This step is important to ensure TaxTank only imports new transactions from the correct date.

Don’t worry, your previously allocated transactions will remain in TaxTank.

However, due to Open Banking requirements, you will need to:

  • recreate any bank rules

  • re-enter loan details

  • recheck linked transfer rules, if applicable

This is a government-mandated requirement and applies to all Open Banking connections.

Already reconnected without updating the import date? If you reconnected without updating the import-from date, you may see duplicate transactions. Bank transactions cannot be deleted in TaxTank, but you can remove duplicates from your bank feed view by allocating them to a custom personal category. This keeps your records clean without affecting your previously allocated transactions.

FAQs

Q: My bank tile says Expired. What do I do?
A: If you can still see the bank tile, this is good news. Simply follow the steps above to disconnect and reconnect the feed.

Q: My bank tile has disappeared completely.
A: If the bank tile is no longer visible, simply click Add Bank and reconnect the account. Make sure you update the Import Transactions From date to your last live transaction date to avoid duplicates. Your historical transactions and allocations will still remain in TaxTank, but you will need to recreate rules and loan details.

Q: Why didn’t I receive a notice about the consent expiry?

A: You should have received a notification before your consent expired. TaxTank sends multiple email reminders in the lead-up to expiry, and each bank tile also shows an expiry date label for up to 6 weeks beforehand.

If you haven’t seen these notifications, please check your spam or junk folder and add @taxtank.com.au to your approved senders or safe sender list to help ensure future emails are delivered correctly.
